Working Together for Mission & Mercy
Why a “Mission Projects Catalog”
“New Starts” are springing up across Northern Illinois, and new sources of funding are what make them possible. Your prayers, your direct gifts, and your decisions for mission outreach in your own congregation are driving the vision for New Starts…New Believers.
More than two dozen local mission projects have been selected for funding by the Northern Illinois District of The Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod between December 2006 and December 2008, each to take the Gospel to new people in Northern Illinois so that, God-willing, by the power of the Holy Spirit new believers will result.
A special combination of funds has made this more than $1.6 million in grants possible, including:
- Gifts of cash and property from congregations of the district
- Direct gifts of individuals committed to mission outreach in Northern Illinois
- District's share of Fan into Flame gifts to LCMS World Mission
- Percentage of regular remittances from district congregations (60% goes to missions split 30% local missions; 30% unrestricted to the national Synod)

Why Give? Why Now?
King David set an example for us when he explained to his people the call to commit our earthly treasures to God’s cause in 1 Chronicles 29:1-5:
“The task is great because this…is not for man but for God."
"I now give my personal treasures…over and above everything I have provided for this holy temple."
"Now, who is willing to consecrate himself today to the Lord?” | Every round of grant applications presents ever more compelling plans for taking the Gospel beyond the church doors and into the community. This Mission Projects Catalog is presented to help provide the additional resources needed for the Lord's harvest field.
Here's How It Works
Each project is selected because of its vision for sharing the Gospel with people not currently and effectively reached by the church. Each has a well-crafted ministry plan and is willing to engage with congregational partnerships and the church-at-large for consultation and accountability.
Browse our categories below and click on individual projects within those categories. Study the missions. Pray and discern if God has given you an interest or passion in one of these. Consider whether your congregation, small group or other ministry might get more actively involved long-term with one of these. If you would like to make a donation, you may do so online at the link for each project, or by mailing a gift to New Starts…New Believers, 2301 S. Wolf Road, Hillside, IL 60162. Or if you prefer to talk about your giving options, please send us an e-mail with your contact information and we will call you.
